Moon Ballon is a blend of Moon Ballon is a blend of ripe puerh Yongde made from 2022 spring sheng which was fermented to shu in 2023 and 2023 Mengku Shai Hong black tea. The ripe puerh brings a deep chocolaty richness while the shai hong adds raspberry jam. The flavors come together like a raspberry chocolate tort.

Malty and citrine in a sort of “chocolate orange” twist. I would advise drinkers be careful not to scorch it with the water, but gradually raise the temp through steeps to open it. There are some teas I’ve see that work with, but the Shai Hong transfuses some bitterness if overheated too quickly. A solid tea to throw into your rotation, if youre partial to mini cakes like me :3
I really like this one! You do predominantly taste the Shai, but there's enough of the Shu there to give you some of the nice dark, earthy flavors to know you aren't just drinking black tea. Very sweet, smooth, rich, fruity and chocolatey, delicious!!
The scent reminded me of a darjeeling I liked from years ago once the water touched it. I gave this 4-stars because I did not get the richness as described. It was a little lighter and mildly sweet. The mouth feel was smooth, too.
Shai hong kind of overpowers the Shu, but you get just enough of that puer flavor to remind you it’s a blend. Delicious combination.
I've brewed these little tea cakes gongfu and in a thermos. Each time has been lovely. The jammy raspberry and chocolate tasting note is really accurate. I gave a few to my non-tea friend and they loved them, so I got more for the both of us.
